POKOTABI / Torii
とり伊
Located in Shijo-Omiya, Kyoto, Torii serves comforting chicken dishes and hotpots, from its signature oyako-don topped with a raw yolk to personal tabletop sukiyaki and ginger-simmered liver.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Crowned with a vibrant yolk right in the middle, the signature oyako-don is the natural starting point on any visit to Torii. Tender chicken is bound in dashi-infused, soft-cooked egg, and breaking the raw yolk over the top releases a velvety richness that coats the whole bowl. It comes paired with a clear chicken broth, itself finished with an egg yolk, whose clean savoury depth and gentle salinity offer a pleasing contrast to the rice.
Beyond rice bowls, the restaurant caters well to hotpot cooking, with tabletop induction burners set up so diners can simmer everything at their own pace. Options like sukiyaki—pairing beef with Kujo scallions, tofu, and yuba—or mizudaki, featuring chicken and vegetables in a dedicated dashi broth, can be ordered comfortably for one. While waiting for the pot to heat up, ordering small bites like kimodaki, chicken liver simmered with soy and aromatic ginger, or a few skewers of yakitori makes for a relaxed interlude.
Alongside draft beer and sake, Torii offers daily lunch specials on weekdays and Saturdays, making it just as practical for a hearty midday meal as it is for unwinding over a warm personal hotpot in the evening.
